Enemies pour in from every direction; your weapon fires automatically, and the arena keeps getting harder. Blockader is a 2D roguelite arena shooter where movement matters just as much as the upgrade cards you choose between waves.

Survive First, Upgrade Second

Your first 60 seconds are mostly about learning the arena. Move with WASD while your character automatically attacks nearby threats. The goal is not simply to kill fast. You need to stay mobile, avoid getting boxed in, and fill the wave meter before the next assault begins.

Once the meter is full, several random upgrade cards appear. Pick one, then get ready for a tougher wave. Extra bullets, poison, chain lightning, arrows, and dragon allies can completely change how your build handles a crowded arena.

How Blockader Builds Power

Choose Upgrades That Work Together

Random cards make every run different, but grabbing the strongest-looking card is not always the smart move. Extra projectiles become more useful when your build already rewards hitting multiple enemies. Defensive or control effects can also buy valuable space when enemy numbers start overwhelming the arena.

The important part is synergy. A collection of unrelated effects may look powerful, yet a smaller group of upgrades that supports the same combat pattern can be easier to use when the screen gets crowded.

Stars Matter After the Run

A failed run still contributes to your longer progression. Stars can unlock permanent Gear upgrades across Offense, Defense, and Utility. Each of the six playable characters also has a Skill Tree, giving you another reason to develop a character instead of simply repeating identical runs.

How to play Blockader

Where New Players Usually Lose

The biggest mistake is treating movement as something you only need when surrounded. That is too late. Keep enough open space around your character so you have somewhere to move when several enemy groups converge.

Snipers add another problem because ranged pressure can punish predictable movement. Do not run in a straight pattern for too long. Change direction when necessary, especially when the arena begins filling with threats.

Controls

  • WASD: Move
  • 1 to 4: Choose an upgrade
  • Space: Reroll cards
  • Tab: Open stats
  • Esc: Pause

Blockader Rewards Better Decisions

Blockader works well when you want short runs with meaningful choices instead of a fixed power path. Six characters, more than 100 upgrade cards, permanent Gear, Skill Trees, and wave-based progression give each attempt room to develop differently.

If you enjoy adapting to enemy waves and building combinations on the fly, Blockader is worth testing in the browser. For another fast browser challenge built around constant movement, try Wave Rider next.
